What supplements can do for you

dietary supplements

Why do we need supplements? Why is our food not sufficient in nutrition any more? There are two main reasons:

1. A lot of people overcook our food: Overcooking will destroy vitamins, antioxidants and enzymes. When the food is overcooked, nutritional value of the food is decreased. If we consume such kind of food over time, we might suffer from deficiency in certain nutrition.

2. Our food might come from depleted soils which do not contain sufficient mineral content. When we grow food in the same field over and over again, the field eventually will deplete some minerals and so does the food growing on this field.

The urgency of taking a supplement is different among different people. Some population might be at higher risk of developing nutrition deficiency:

First group of people are those who do not eat regularly and skip meals, which leads to the situation that our body cannot access to adequate nutrition in time when it is needed.

Second group of people are those who, including old people, experience digestive dysfunction. Under this condition, our body cannot properly digest and assimilate the foods we eat.  Eventually, this will lead to symptoms such as reflux, heartburn and chronic constipation.
Nutritional supplherbal supplementsements are become more and more important in our life. There are a variety of reasons and benefits from taking supplements.

The most common reason that people take a supplement is to enhance the nutrition content which might be not sufficient in our diet. Such nutrition includes fiber, proteins, vitamins andminerals. Iron, zinc, and vitamin deficiencies can be eliminated by taking supplements. Body builders often take supplements for the additional benefit of adding muscle at an increased rate.

Pregnant women can benefit from folic acid as a measure against a type of birth defect classified as a neural tube defect. Expectant mothers can also maintain levels of nutrients that are otherwise lost during pregnancy by taking nutritional and dietary supplements.

Supplements can increase energy levels for those that feel drained and tired on a regular basis. There are also supplements that can assist in rest and make you feel more relaxed during the day.muscle building

Supplements have medical benefits. For example, the susceptibility to certain concerns for health issues such as the common cold, flu, stress and even heart attacks can be decreased by supplements. Pain from arthritis and the symptoms associated with irritable bowl syndrome can both be reduced by taking nutritional and dietary supplements. Problems associated with Alzheimer’s, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, obesity, osteoporosis and immune disorders can be aided by taking supplements.

Most recently, a new generation of supplements is available: redox signaling molecules and those that change our gene expression. Such supplements will efficiently protect, repair, and replace cells and thus effectively improve our wellbeing.

In summary, dietary and nutritional supplements are more and more important in our life and they can make you feel energetic, promote muscle growth, promote heath status, and treat and prevent diseases.

Interesting article, however I miss the why are supplements important. I miss the information that our food does not contain what it should contain. I miss the information about how food is destroyed when cooked. I miss the information about how our food is manipulated. I believe this information is important for people in order to decide about supplements

Having read the article, I would want more information about why I would need supplements. I mean, everyone knows they are beneficial and needed, I would elaborate more on standard diet and what’s missing, hence the importance of having supplements. Great one, though! :)
